Everyone knows that GPS systems can be used to track missing pets and can get someone from point A to point B using the quickest route possible. There are many uses for GPS in everyday business and personal lives. But one thing that can be missed is the fun ways that GPS can be used. This new trend for GPS games is really putting people from all over the world in touch in ways that are fun and challenging. The portable units are being used to create treasure hunt games that can be played by anyone with a portable GPS unit.
How this works is one person in one area of the world hides a cache with something in it. This is posted with the basic location of the cache. Those in other parts of the world use their GPS systems to unearth this cache and find out what was put there. There are web sites as well as forum discussions all based on this new and crazy game for the GPS. These caches can contain one or more items. Once the cache is found, it is posted with the contents and then the player moves on to the next cache. Once all the caches have been found in a particular area, the players move on.
Information can be shared between players via the internet. Many people are playing this game and are making friends with people from all over the world that they would never have had the chance to meet before. Some of these people have even met in real life when they are going to the countries where they have been playing the game in. This is fun for all ages and can become quite addictive to some. There is no end to the game. Once one cache is found, the next one can be searched for. As long as these caches are being hidden, there is going to be someone who wants to find them.
As useful as GPS is, it is even better when fun can be included into the usefulness of it. There are other games that can be played with GPS as well. Hide and seek has never been the same since the invention of GPS became widely used. Only now, it can be played over an entire city instead of just in the backyard. More and more games are going to be created for this handy little tool in the future as well!
