Nearly everybody in any country that is technologically savvy knows about GPS. Cell phones come with them, automobile manufacturers are installing them in new cars and internet web sites use them to create and print out maps with directions to get from one place to another. Anyone who has a computer or cell phone has probably found information that has come directly from GPS technology. This technology can be used for more than just creating maps and offering those who need it directions to an unknown area.
Surveyors are using GPS technology to do land surveys that are more accurate than they ever were before. Those who have a lot of property and who may be in dispute with their neighbors over said property can make use of the system to determine exactly where their land begins and ends. These types of disputes would sometimes take years of court litigation to solve along with the surveys. Now, it only takes a few weeks for the surveys to come back and the land to be allocated to the rightful owner. This is saving the property owners a lot of time, trouble and money when they do not have to go to see a judge who can determine their land rights.
Another great use of GPS technology is by getting roadside assistance when a car breaks down. When it is dark out, signs can not always be seen. It can be hard for people to give the people who offer roadside services such as tow truck companies the exact location of where they are. Now, with GPS, those people can simply push a button and the driver is going to know their exact location. This makes it much safer and those people are not going to be wandering on a dark road looking for a landmark to offer the tow truck driver.
These are only two of the many other ways that GPS technology can be used in everyday life. As time goes on, it can be assumed that even more applications are going to be based on GPS. The mind can become boggled when thinking about all the ways that this technology can be used to help people when they need it most. It is the wave of the future and the wave keeps getting bigger and bigger. Who knows what tomorrow is going to bring with the GPS technology and its advancements?
